The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), had its genesis in Agricultural College, Saidapet in 1876, which was shifted to Coimbatore in the year 1905. Started with the laurels of improvement of Indian Agriculture by giving young men and women the knowledge of scientific agriculture, it continues to strive through the labyrinths of last century of second millennia and establishes itself as a keystone of Indian Agriculture.

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University is a leading agro technology provider of India and its graduates are recognized throughout the world. The Institute has emerged as a nodal centre for Agricultural Education and Research through development of high yielding varieties in various crops and management technologies keeping pace with the Green Revolution of 1960’s.

The ever growing demand for agricultural graduates due to intensification of research activities, in diverse research fields like Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Post Harvest Technology and Farm Machinery culminated in the formation of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University during 1971 with AC & RI as a germinal nucleus.

Agritech Portal offers a diverse range of information from crop-related or weather information, to daily market prices, schemes and programmes for farmers, daily news, events, publications supported by multimedia, expert systems, and much more.

TNAU Weather Network

It is first of its kind in India, with such a denser weather network has been established and is expected to help in monitoring the global warming and climate change impacts on Tamil Nadu Agriculture.

TNAU Research

TNAU is more specific in identifying the theme areas to carry out it’s strategic research to satisfy the needs of Tamil Nadu farmers. There are about 39 Agricultural Research Stations spread over seven agro-climatic zones of Tamil Nadu.
